Two interesting answers.
Yes - it is a separate system of law that does not really intersect with civil law. Canon law, Torah, etc. are examples.
No - Sharia law is incompatible with human dignity as upheld by Judeo-Christian foundations that gave rise to modern democracies.
Thoughts? I am not familiar enough about the topic to give an educated opinion, but both arguments are convincing to me.
